Quality, Affordable Care in Ohio
We are a mid-sized Managed Care Organization (MCO), serving approximately 27,000 employers.
We manage the care and cost associated with claims from our Employer clients that have to be approved by the Bureau of Workers Compensation (BWC).
Ohio’s Bureau of Workers Compensation (BWC) system revolves around four entities: the BWC, the injured worker, the Employer/TPA and their Managed Care Organization (MCO).
Ohio Law allows injured workers to select any BWC certified providers for medical treatment. We work with all providers medically managing the claim.
As an MCO, we assist in providing medical management and restoring the injured worker back to health.
We ensure that workers can return to their pre-injury state and return safely back to work.
Our Approach
We utilize a network of providers to provide care. We use a variety of techniques to help ensure the quality of service provided, including formal utilization reviews, quality improvement programs, and using the provider networks to reduce costs, negotiating more reasonable fees.
Close By When You Need Us
As your Managed Care Organization, Occupational Health Link’s mission is to provide workers’ compensation and occupational health solutions through ethical medical systems and state-of-the-art information systems built on a philosophy that “Work is Part of Healing.” We are a medium size MCO, serving approximately 27,000 employers. We are dedicated to individualized assistance and one-on-one contact.
Our commitment to quality includes a pledge to provide local/regional medical management for the injured worker – we’re close by when you need us!
In many cases, employers already have an effective, existing relationship with an occupational healthcare provider.
We enable employers to keep and strengthen that relationship without wasting time and money by having to go through an insurance company intermediary on every question and decision.
Appropriate & Quality Care
Physicians decide the appropriate care for the injured worker. Many MCOs manage care by allowing a case manager, who has never seen the patient, to override decisions made by the better-trained, and more experienced treating physician.
Occupational Health Link, OHL believes none of us want this sort of decision used for our employees or ourselves. As a result, Occupational Health Link, OHL will only deny care if the patient has been issued a second written opinion by a qualified physician.
Nurses and physicians are not paid to deny care. OHL does not pay physicians and nurses to deny care to patients. We believe this creates a conflict of interest that does not benefit anyone except the MCO. We oppose incentives of this sort and do not use them.
BWC’s MCO
Report Card
The Ohio Bureau of Workers’ Compensation (BWC) create an annual MCO Report Card to make it easy to evaluate every MCO’s performance. It measures key elements that lead to medical management quality, safe return-to-work strategies.
A statewide average has been calculated for several measures within the report card to assist employers in identifying how well an MCO is performing against the state as a whole and against other MCOs.
The Report Card contains information about the number of employers, the number of claims, and the industry type. It also reports measurements for the First Report of Injury process, the provider payment process, and the BWC conducted Employer Survey.
Our Vision.
Occupational Health Link attributes our successes to our unique structure of regional case management. We prioritize the safe return to work of the injured worker from the date of injury. We ensure prompt and appropriate return-to-work and cost savings to employers.
Occupational Health Link has a strong code of ethics, which protects the rights of employees and guarantees them fair and honest medical care. We enable the employer to keep and strengthen relationships with healthcare providers & employees while saving time and money.
